How posting worked — and works

Posting through the original gateway is no longer possible; it stopped when the service ended. Posting to Usenet itself remains possible from any NNTP account with posting rights (Eternal-September grants them for text groups).

The etiquette that made Usenet readable still applies, and this page would fail its ancestors if it did not repeat it: read a group before posting to it; quote only what you answer; write subjects that describe; crosspost almost never; and remember the person on the other end predates your argument and will outlast it.
