news2mail.com

A directory of Usenet newsgroups

Formerly a Usenet-to-e-mail gateway, 2000–2004. Now a reference.

Between 2000 and 2004, news2mail.com delivered Usenet newsgroups to e-mail inboxes — a small free service in the era when Usenet was still where the internet talked to itself. The gateway is long gone, but pages of this directory are still cited by university course notes, library guides and reference sites across the web.

Rather than let those references rot, this site preserves the directory: 107 newsgroup pages across the soc, alt, comp and rec hierarchies and Microsoft’s public support groups, each describing what the group was, who used it, and how to reach its archive today.

Usenet itself has not died — it has retired to the countryside. Here is how to visit.
